From the Back Cover The pictures on the cover are from my personal journal. During a 2015 autumn trip to Seattle, my wife, oldest son, and I visited the city's iconic Public Market Center. There, amidst flying salmon, the diversity of other food offerings, flowers, and art, we stumbled upon a woman selling jour- nals covered with natural animal hides and filled with journal pages of recycled, imperfect paper. I wanted one, but in my wife's eyes I could see an immediate-future Christmas present she desired to purchase for me, so I never reached for my wallet. Instead, we took the woman's business card, and within a month and a few days, one of the journals was under our family Christmas tree as one of my Christmas presents. The morning after the journal's unwrapping, I began putting pen to the unrefined pages. I was preparing for my first sermon series of the year titled, 'This Day's Bread.' It was to be an exploration into the individual's association with the body and blood of Christ. As I began to record eucharistic scriptures, I discov- ered a raised image at the bottom of the journal page upon which I was writing. I ran my fingers over it. There waiting on me was a resemblance of Jesus' beaten, but unbroken body hanging on the cross. In black ink, I started to outline the perfection housed in the invisible image rising from the flawed paper. With the likeness defined, I sketched a cross, and there was my Rescuer, your Rescuer, our Rescuer--this One we each so often fight against, saying, 'Humble yourself and be found.'
