Description for A Stone For Kayla, On the Camino De Santiago: Lessons Learned Along The Way of Saint James
From the Author I am a retired airline employee, world traveler, hiker, ultra-endurance runner, adventure junkie, and grandfather. My current base is in the North Georgia mountains, only a 'hoot and a holler' away from the Appalachian Trail, which I've had the pleasure of thru-hiking from Georgia to Maine. However, I will always consider that New Hampshire, where I was born and I raised my family, is my home.My book,A Stone for Kayla on the Camino, was originally intended to be a personal exchange between myself and my granddaughter, Kayla. I had wanted to share with her my experiences and the lessons I learned while hiking the Camino de Santiago, from the Pyrenees Mountains in France to the Atlantic Ocean in the Galician region of Spain. However, upon reflection of my experience on the Camino, I became aware that it was important to share this with a wider audience. Thus began a collaboration with my nephew, Kevin Gosselin, a very talented illustrator, and the book was born.I feel passionate about the importance of living every day to the fullest, expressing gratitude, and letting those I love know how important they are to me. The love for my granddaughter, Kayla, followed me every step of the way along the Camino.Since that first pilgrimage in Spain, I have completed three additional Camino routes; the Portuguese Coastal Camino, the Via Francigena in Italy, and the Kumano Kodo in Japan, where I earned my 'dual pilgrim' credentials for hiking the two UNESCO 'sister' trails. I have also experienced walking in over 90 countries around the world, including the Milford and Kepler Treks in New Zealand, Hadrian's Wall and Cotswold Way in England, the West Highland Way in Scotland, the Ruta Vicentina in Portugal, Ciudad Perdida 'Lost City' in Colombia, and over 1000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. You can also find me, along with my wife, Kendel, running the roads and trails; having completed nearly 400 marathons and ultramarathons by running a marathon and ultramarathon in all 50 States, (multiple times) and all seven continents. I am a finisher of more than a dozen 100 miler running events, an Ironman distance triathlon, and an Olympic Torch bearer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.I'm excited to share my journeys with you.Happy Trails and Buen Camino.
